Ten Coaching Candidates to Replace USC’s Clay Helton
Uscfootball.com’s Austin Nivison provides a list of ten candidates who fired Clay Helton. Two on the list peek my interest for two different reasons. The first one has a prior relationship with USCs AD Mike Bohn. He hired Luke Fickell as Cincinnati head coach in 2107. Fickell is reported to be one of the ten candidates to replace Helton. The question is would he accept the USC’s job since he is a midwestern guy.
The other candidate I am very familiar with because he coaches at Rutgers University in my home state of New Jersey. He is Greg Shiano. He is very popular among the Rutgers’ fans, which is why this is his second time here as head coach. He has been successful here which is his appeal.

Don’t Feel Sorry for Clay Helton, He Has $10 Million Coming to Him
Helton signed a contract extension prior to the 2018 season. His contract was extended 2023, so he will be receiving $10 million. This has been reported by uscfootbal.com Brad Crawford.
USC’s decision to fire head football coach Clay Helton is a costly one for the Trojans. The university will owe Helton more than $10 million in buyout funds with two seasons left on his remaining contract, Yahoo Sports college football insider Pete Thamel reports.

This was only matter of time, but I was surprised that this happen so early in the season. I thought that he should have been fired three years ago.
The Rams beat the Bears 34-14
While I am glad that the Rams won and Matt Stafford lit the Bears up, if I was a Bear fan, I would be concern with Coach Nagy’s coaching decisions. I don’t why he did not go for reachable field goals early in the game. I can understand late in the game, but early in the game score was close, The half ended with the Rams winning 17-6. If he went and made two field goals the scored would have been 17-12.
I don’t know how much it would have change the outcome, but the score would have been closer
