The Rams Add Two More Players

The Rams remain active during this year’s period of free agency by adding more players.  Yesterday, they add center John Sullivan who played for Rams head coach Sean McVay at Washington. Now today they sign LB/DE Carlos Thompson.

Sullivan was drafted by the Vikings in 2009.  He played for them until 2014.  He spent 2015 out of football because of a back injury. He signed with Washington in 2016 after being released by the Vikings. This information comes from the Associated Press.

Carlos Thompson

Thompsom played for one season for the Texans in 2015.  He signed with the team as a undrafted free agent and played in two games and made two tackles. He was released in August of 2016.

2017 LA Rams’ Salary Cap

Now that we put this horrendous season behind us, we can now look forward to a new season under new head coach and his new staff with hopes for a much better outcome.  For them to give us this much brighter outcome they will have a $44,116,822 salary cap with which to work. A Brief History of The Rams New head Coach

On Thursday, the Rams hired the youngest head coach in the league at 30 years of age. This will be a perfect match for their youngest quarterback and team in the league. But, do not let his young age fool you because he has a pedigree, and Jon Gruden approval.

McVay’s grandfather is John McVay who had a role in five super bowls for the San Francisco Forty-Niners.

The younger McVay also has his own impressive accomplishments as well.  In high school, he played quarterback and defensive back for Marist school where he was the first player to gain 1,000 passing and rushing in consecutive seasons.  During his high school years, he rushed for 2,600 yards and 40 touchdowns and passed for 2,500 yards and 18 touchdowns.  He led the school to 26-3 record with a 14-1 state record in his senior year.  He was named Georgia 4A Offensive Player of the Year for his senior year efforts.

He went to play wide receiver for the the University of Miami(Ohio) where he earned Miami’s Scholar-Athlete Award in 2007. While playing for Miami he caught 39 passes for 312 yards.

After his graduation from the University of Miami(Ohio), he accepts his first coaching assignment with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2008.  Jon Gruden, then Buccaneers’ head coach, made his assistant wide receivers coach.  After Gruden’s firing in 2009, McVay became wide receivers/quality control coach for the the Florida Tuskers of the now defunct United Football League(UFL).

In 2010, McVay would return to the NFL, but this time the Washington Redskins.  He would be their assist tight ends coach until 1011 when they promoted him to tights ends coach.

A Gruden would re-enter his life in 2014 when Jon’s son Jay became the Redskins’ head coach.  The younger promoted him to offensive coordinator 2014 where he would remain until becoming the LA Rams new head coach.

In his first year, he turned their number 25th ranked offense to the tenth ranked total offense and would further improve the offense by moving it from the 12th ranked passing offense with a 268.4 average passing yards to number three ranked passing offense with 309.3 yards per pass.

The Chargers Will Be making LA Their New Home

The LA Time has reported that the Chargers have decided to move to LA to the Rams. According to the Times, Dan Spanos made his intentions known to Pete Goodell and several league owners on Thursday.

Since the Chargers’ move not required the league permission, the move will be immediate so the Chargers will be playing their 2017 home games in LA.

I can tell you right now that this move has two groups of unhappy fans.  The first group, of course, being San Diego fans who had their final hopes dashed by a past deadline call by Spanos to Goodell.

The other group of fans are the Rams who do not want to share their team’s stadium wit the Charger fans

Yet, there are others who think that LA  will not support two lousy teams such as these two teams.

Jeff Fisher Apologizes to Lion’s Head Coach Jim Caldwell After His Team Goes Rogue

The Rams would have you believe that the players went rogue at the end of the Rams-Lions’ game when they rushed the Lions’ kneel down.  That’s what Jeff Fisher wants you to believe after apologizing the Lions’ coach Jim Caldwell.  His excuse, the frustration of his defensive line with the Lions’ offensive line.  I would like to give him the benefit of doubt, but I can’t because of their over-aggressive behavior’s history under their defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.

I will admit to you that Williams’ lack of regard for the health of opposing teams’ player does not deserve my respect.  As much as I disdain him, I promise I will re-litigate past in this post.  I will leave with this truth to ponder upon.  There are three teams that have label this team dirty because of Williams’ over-aggressiveness, so don’t get upset when they get their revenge on us.  So, coach Fisher, you can deny the sideline was directly involved but it was most certainly indirectly involved of Gregg Williams just being in the building and presence on the team.

LA Rams Coach, Jeff Fisher Not Overly Concern About His Team’s Penalties

An article came to in my email this morning with the headline saying that the Fisher is not concern about the rising penalties.  Really, I thought to myself and how can he not be concern about his team’s penalties especially when they been hurting his team.

According to Alex Gonzalez of ESPN, they have committed 50 penalties for 435 yards for their first six games.  This is the third worse in the league, but what’s Fisher’s response to his team’s penalty problem:.

“The team is aware,” Fisher said. “The team is aware. The team is addressing penalties like they’re addressing their practice tempo and their effort and their commitment to meetings and things like that. I’m not overly concerned right now. Penalties aren’t the problem.”

That’s right penalties are not the problem.  Then please tell what is the real problem causing your team’s self-destructive behavior.

My Picks for Week Five in the NFL

It is week five and the Rams own first place with a record of 3-1, but will they remain in the sole leaders of first place in the NFC West?  While you ponder that, the Cardinals will take on the Forty-Niners in the Thursday Night game.  This will decide who owns the basement of the NFC West. Also, who do I think will remain undefeated at the end of week five.  These are some of my picks that I will discuss in this post.

So who do I pick?  I would sound biased if I say the Rams, but what the hey, I have to go with the Rams.  If they can keep on throwing deep like they have been, use their passing deep to free up Todd Gurley, and their defense plays the way they did against Seattle then I have to give them the game.  I do believe they will do all these things.  I am also counting on Rex to open his mouth before thinking before this game which will fire up this team even more.

Now, we have tonight’s game between the Arizona Cardinals and the San Francisco Forty-Niners to see who remain the NFC’s Western Division basement.  Both teams will be coming into tonight’s game with a record of 1-3.  The Cardinals will be looking to end their two-game losing streak while the Forty-niners a three-game losing streak.  Without having to go any further, I like the Cardinals in this game and why?  While the Cardinals could be faulted with bad offensive play calling, they will correct that problem.  Also, I feel the Cardinals are a much better-coached team than the Forty-Niners.

Now, for my picks for the three remaining undefeated teams. A lot of people are going hate me for this, but I think there will be two remaining teams at the end of week 5, and that will be Denver and Philadelphia.  Why did I not include Minnesota?  That would be because they will be going against Houston (3-1), and right now they are playing well enough to give the Vikings their first loss.  You could make this same argument against Denver who will be playing Atlanta (3-1), but I just think Denver will pull out a very close victory over Atlanta.  The other remaining team Philadelphia will be playing Detroit who has been called Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde team, so this is a given.

So these are my picks for week 5

Fitzpatrick NJ Home for Rent: Could This Mean That The Jets Could Come Knocking On The Rams’ Door?

Normally, I would have let this story go by, because it has nothing to do with the Rams. Yet, taken the Rams will have to move their quarterback Nick Foles, well could mean something.

The Daily News’ Mike Matvey has this story.  He writes that apparently Jets’ quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has his house for rent. How does this affect the Rams?  Well, I wrote a couple of posts concerning the stalemate in negotiations between free agent Fitzpatrick and the Jets, and judging from the for rent sign, the Jets maybe in need of a quarterback and a team willing to move one.

As of right now, the Rams need to either cut or trade Foles while the Jets need a quarterback. We will have to watch for any rumors concerning the Rams and Jets talking.

Rumors Have That Rams Quarterback Could be Going to Either the Forty-Niners of the Cardinals

Last week I wrote about Nick Foles’ soon not to be future with the Rams. Well today, I came across an Inquisitr article that claims he could be traded.  According to the article the Forty-Niners or the Cardinals could be possible landing spots.  The article did also mention the Jets if there is no settlement in their stalemate with Ryan Fitzpatrick.

While I have no problem with the Rams and Foles parting ways, I do have some concerns with them just cutting him and not having control of his landing spot.  I don’t like seeing him picked up by one of their divisional opponents so that he comes back to hurt the Rams twice a season. This could be the replay of when Kurt Warner after he went to the Cardinals where for five years he went a total of 8-2 over the Rams.  No, I do not want to go down that road again.

Yet, if he did go to a division rival. let it be the Cardinals. There he would be playing behind starter Carson Palmer and backup Drew Stanton, and most likely never set foot on the field.  Where if he goes to the Niners, he could end up as a starting under his former coach Chip Kelly.

Yet, if the Rams are looking for a trade, they could look in the direction of the Jets.  It may not come to fruition, but if the Jets and Fitzpatrick do not break their stalemate, a trade could be possible.  I do not think that Jets are ready to through their season on the back of Geno Smith. Or, they can wait for the start of training camp because teams will be looking for a quarterback.

Whether it is by trade or cut, Nick Foles will not with the Rams at the start of the season.

The Rams and Nick Foles are on the same page: He’s a Dead Man Walking

Remember back in the winter of  2015 when the Rams and the Eagles swapped their starting? The often injured Sam Bradford went to the Eagles and the Rams received Nick Foles in return.  There was aRams quarterback Nick Foles by 101sports.com

honeymoon period between the Rams and their newly acquired quarterback.  He impressed him so much that they gave him a contract extension.    Well, honeymoons do end and their realities of the marriages begin to take over and you the person that you married has been taken over by some monstrous beast.

The regular season left the Rams in that same predicament. They thought they had a superstar. Someone, who would breathe new life into their almost dead offense.  Instead, Foles turned out to be so bad that they pulled him late in and replaced with Case Keenum.  Unfortunately, they pulled him to late in the season to even be able to try salvage it and at least end up and have their first winning season since the early 2000’s.

This all took place back in St Louis, but now, that they are in Los Angles things there seems that the marriage between the Rams and Foles seem to be ending.  Right now, I would call this a separation before their divorce. Foles has been avoiding the voluntary OTAs.  Why has he been avoiding them?

Because the Rams have found a new interest in younger quarterback named Jared Goff.  Yes, Foles has been replaced.

Let me add that it is not only Goff that seems to be pushing out of the Rams’ home but also another quarterback named Dylan Thompson.  He signed with the forty-niners last year as an undrafted free agent to their practice squad.  They released him last month. Thompson could find a spot on this team should the Rams cut or trade Foles.

At this point, a divorce looks to be on the horizon, and Foles is helping to become a reality by avoiding OTAs.

I would like to share what head coach Jeff Fisher has to say about Foles avoiding OTAs.

“We’re on the same page and trying to work things out.” Said Fisher after the team’s workout. “That’s all I can say…”  He adds “We talked again,” Fisher said. “I think Nick has the feeling that if things stay the same, he’s probably not going to be on the roster.” Josh Webb’s article at the LA Rams Report.   Here is link to that article.

Fisher does also mention that the OTAs are voluntary and they have three quarterbacks to give reps. Fisher’s comment about Foles not  making the roster fits nicely with his comment about them on the same page when you think about it.  The Rams want Foles gone and he knows that they want him gone.  I say they are pretty much on the same page.

Though I must be honest with you, I think the decision that the marriage between the Rams and Foles had been over since the end of last year. He showed them that he could  not be trusted that is to run their offense.  What makes me think so? Recalled that Rams’ GM Les Snead declared that Case Keenum would be the starting quarterback and not the incumbent Nick Foles.  Even though this would be later walked back to going into preseason, it shows that there had been a discussion and decision made that Keenum had been chosen over Foles.  Then the persistent pre-draft trade rumors involving Foles.  Again even though they never materialized, the team never denied them nor was there no reassurance to Foles that he was still welcomed.

Yes, there is enough evidence that the marriage between the Rams and Foles will be ending in a divorce anytime now. The Rams have four quarterbacks now in OTAs and it is pretty crowded.  Now if you add a fifth quarterback, it will be over crowded.  Someone will be gone before camp and that person will be Foles and he knows that he will be the one gone from the team because he already admitted it. So, sometime between now and training camp he will be gone either by trade or cut.  As for the  money the Rams owe him well is another topic for another post.
